Veteran's Day Parade

2013

Camp 1387 had an outstanding presence at this year’s Veteran’s Day Parade. The crowd was very welcoming to our unit and our participation.

We mustered a 6 man Color Guard with riflemen and an officer. Our new camp float was well received with its bright Red – White – and - Blue colors, large banner and rolling flag displays.

Mike Thornton with daughter and granddaughter helped Tom Watkins give greetings. Our Mechanized Cavalry contingent of Dick and Sarah Lee and Wesley Frank completed the unit. This gave us 18 troops to commemorate the sacrifices and service of our nation’s Veteran’s.

The new float is 6 x 16 feet with only an 8” step up, has seating for 12 and hand rails for several more seats. The trailer was fitted with new heavy decking and tires by owner Mike Thornton. The seating benches, handrails, banner framing and flag holders were fabricated, assembled, painted and installed by Rick Still, Jim Meeks and Don Young. The heavy duty construction will provide our camp with several years of service. We will also make the unit available to other camps in our region to help make participation in their local events easier.
