Independence Day Parade

2007

The 4th was a blast this year! Camp 1387 participated in the annual Honor America Melbourne parade with our float and Confederate Color Guard. Compatriots Ernie and William Stewart, Rob Murray, Scott Blackwell, Greg Carson and Don Young led our unit with the Colors. Greg, 11 years old and looking forward to being old enough to sign up, had the honor of carrying the Battle Flag. He and 12 year old compatriot William (Stars and Stripes) marched the entire distance and held their flags high and straight (almost) while
color sergeant duties were turned over to departing Past Commander Scott Blackwell for his last event with the Camp before joining his wife in France. The float was pulled by our faithful 1947 IHC pickup with Editor Bob Weaver nursing it along in the heat. Bright flags
and signs including 1-800- MY DIXIE covered the truck andfloat. Compatriots Jim
Leggett and JR Williford joined Commander Gerry Carson and Matron of Honor Beth Carson with float Mistress Miss Lee. Proud mom Laura Carson with little Mathew Carson listened to young Jenna Carson play Dixie on her fiddle to the delight  of the crowds lining the street and cheering us on. Melbourne always has a rousing welcome for the SCV
