Captain. A. J. Whitlock Marker Dedication

January 10, 2009

On Saturday, January 10, 2009, Canaveral Light Chapter UDC member Mrs. Sandra Natowich sponsored a Dedication Ceremony for the new VA marker she has placed on her Great Great Grandfather. The original monument stones for Captain A.J. Whitlock 21st GA Vol Inf, and his son, were taken from the St. Luke's Episcopal Church cemetery.

The graveside Dedication Ceremony was done in conjunction with a family reunion and was attended by about 100 people. The service was conducted by St. Luke's Father Peter Roberts, music was provided by Mrs. Sue and daughter Mary Perry of the Canaveral Light Chapter of the UDC, UDC Regent Mrs. Helen Stubbs and SCV Division Lt.Commander Don Young presented the messages of the UDC and the SCV. The Confederate flag display and Honor Guard were provided by Camp 1387.

Members of the UDC, St. Luke's congregation, and family members were moved by the presentations and the 21 gun salute. Our thanks to new compatriots Bob and son Trey Whittman and Greg Carson, who carried flags. Color Sgt. Evan Phillips rifle unit was filled out with Kevin Acthison, Rob Murray, Gerry Carson, Don Young, Jeff Young, and Morgan Gruen. Further assistance came from SCV 12th Brigade Commander Wesley Frank, his son, and Joe Overstreet. Camp 1387 had 19 participants/attendees in the event.
