 Confederate Memorial Day

2015

The Camp 1387 and UDC Chapter 2406 Confederate Memorial Day service at Melbourne Cemetery Sunday 26 April was blessed with beautiful weather and large attendance. Some 65 Southern souls; men, women and children from infants to oldsters gathered to pay homage to the 9 Confederates and 10 Federals who rest there. The 90 degree April day was tempered by 15-20
mph winds that sent some hats sailing.

We had guest performers with guitars, violins and our personal occupying bagpiper Miss Melody Hunter, from the 75th Ohio reenactor company. Guest presenters, UDC ladies and compatriots presented period poems, and read the lists of our ancestors. A professional military bugler delivered perfect taps.

The refreshments and social time were well received and guests from Camp 2120, 1595 and Christmas OCR enjoyed fine Southern visiting.

A tip of the kepi to Nick Nichols, who provided these photos.
